MTR Corporation has awarded a Hong Kong express rail link contract, worth £100m ($147m), to a joint venture of Laing O’Rourke and Bachy Soletanche.
The contract involves the underground construction of approach tunnels for a section of the West Kowloon Terminus station complex using cut and cover techniques.
The contract is part of MTR’s Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link project, which is scheduled for completion by 2015, according to the company.
The 26km-long express rail link will connect with the 16,000km Chinese national high-speed railway network, which is expected to be completed in 2015.
MTR Corporation is the operator of the mass transit rail system in Hong Kong.
