A contract has been awarded to Faiveley Transport to provide light rail vehicle (LRV) brake systems, doors and air-conditioning for the Toronto City Tramway by Bombardier Transport North America.

The LRV brake system includes electronic control, hydraulic power units and hydraulic calipers.

In addition to discs and magnetic track brakes, Faiveley will supply the entire electrically powered door system, with four doors per tram.

The cab, ventilation, air-conditioning units and hydraulic brakes will be manufactured in North America.

The railway service provider is expected to equip an initial order of 204 trams, with optional order for another 410 trams.

Part of the equipment will be supplied to the Bombardier Transport factory in Ontario between the end of December 2010 and the end of January 2011, Faiveley said.

Deliveries for the initial order are scheduled for 2014–2015.
