The Dubai Road and Transport Authority (DRTA) has announced that its Metro Red Line will open in April 2010 with work on the remaining stations due for completion on 25 April.
DRTA executive director HE Mattar Al Tayer said several key stations, namely Emirates Station, Airport Terminal 1 Station, GGICO Station, Al Karama Station, World Trade Center Station, Marina Station and Ibn Battuta Station will start operating from 25 April 2010.
“All work on stations on the Green Line will be completed in August 2011,” Al Tayer said.
The fully automated metro network had an initial completion target of this spring.
The majority of the project cost for the two lines will be provide by the DRTA while remaining cost will be funded through the project contractor.
The contractor of the Dubai Metro Project, Dubai Rail Link is a Japanese consortium, including Obayashi Corp, Kajima Corp, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi Corp and Turkey’s Yapi Merkezi Insaat Ve Sanat AS.
