French rail network Réseau Ferré de France (RFF) has signed a Systra-led consortium to manage a project for the western section of the new €1bn ($1.38bn) Tangentielle Nord line, a light railway to link the northern suburbs of Paris.

The 12km five-station western section will link Sartrouville and Epinay-sur-Seine and is expected to open in 2018.

The consortium, which includes Setec and architects Attica, will manage the section's rail infrastructure, design the route, track and earthworks, as well as manage and coordinate general organisation, costs and deadlines.

The 28km tram-train Tangentielle Nord will run parallel to the existing Grande Ceinture line in the north of the Ile de France region, serving 15 suburbs and cutting travel times between Satrouville and Noisy-le-Sec to 35 minutes.
