Ansaldo will continue to operate and manage Copenhagen's driverless metro system for five more years, under a €180m contract.

The Copenhagen Metro runs on two lines from suburban Vanløse to Vestamager and Copenhagen Airport covering 21km, including 10km in tunnels and 11km on elevated tracks and embankment.

The firm had initially won a contract to provide engineering, systems integration, rail electrification
equipment and vehicles for the driverless metro system in 1996.

In 2009, a total of 50 million passengers used the Copenhagen Metro, which began operations in 2002.
