Baselland Transport (BLT) in Switzerland has awarded a $74m (SFr74m) contract to Stadler Rail to supply 15 Tango trams.
The 45m-long and 2,300mm-wide metre-gauge trams can operate at a maximum speed of 80kmph and handle 8% gradients and tight 11.8m radius curves.
The delivery of the trams is scheduled for 2011–12.
The order follows an option in a $276.08m (SFr276m) contract in 2006 by BLT and the Basle Transport Authority (BVB) for the supply of up to 60 trams, 20 for BVB and 40 for BLT.
