Balfour Beatty, Morgan Est and Vinci Construction and Austria’s Beton- und Monierbau have teamed up to jointly bid for UK rail operator Crossrail’s recently announced tunnelling contracts.
The companies have formed a joint venture, called BBMV, and pooled resources to establish an office in London.
The contracts consist of two major tunnelling works in central London as part of the £16bn Crossrail project.
Major works include driving two 6.2m internal diameter tunnels – one 6.2km from Royal Oak to Farringdon and another 8.3km tunnel from Limmo to Farringdon.
BBMV’s bid director Peter Mason said the project requires a team that possesses technical and resource capability as well as a comprehensive understanding of the local issues.
The team’s combined strengths include earth pressure balance and slurry tunnelling, sprayed concrete lined tunnels and cavern construction, major station construction, railway systems integration and heavy civil engineering.
