Etihad Rail will begin construction work on a railway link in the western region of the United Arab Emirates shortly, following a field visit to inspect ongoing preparations ahead of the first phase of the project.

The 264km railway will provide a link between Shah, Habshan and Al Ruwais areas, according to Gulf News.

The first phase will be built in partnership with Adnoc, which will use the link to transport sulphur from the area of extraction in Shah and Habshan to Al Ruwais, where it will be exported.

Etihad Rail commercial affairs executive director Shadi Malak said that the project will now shift from the planning stage to the construction stage.

"Preliminary work is expected to begin in the coming few months to go hand in hand with the time schedule that has been determined beforehand with our partners at Adnoc," Malak said.
