February saw a 7.6% increase in riders, compared with 147,000 passengers in February last year.
The 16 consecutive months of ridership spanning from November 2009 to February 2011 averages a 6% growth rate.
Amtrak has attributed the rise to the improved economic situation, which led to the recovery of business travel along the Northeast Corridor, as well as to sustained high gasoline prices, effective marketing campaigns and the introduction of Wi-Fi on the high-speed Acela Express trains.
