Hytera Communications subsidiary Teltronic has secured a contract from Trensurb to replace the communications system of the Porto Alegre Metro network in Brazil.

Teltronic will deliver the latest version of TETRA’s communications system to the metro of the capital city of the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

It will replace the antiquated analogue system, modernising voice and data communication along the metro lines.

Based on the Teltronic Nebula System, the set-up includes one main controller, six base stations and 80 train borne radios, as well as a CeCoCo integrated command and control solution.

In addition to enabling secure and efficient communication, it offers functionalities such as GPS positioning and data message transmission, as well as meeting the requirements stipulated by the Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel).

Teltronic Brazil general director Paulo Ferrão said: “Users of the new system will benefit from higher quality calls, new functionality of both voice and data on a single system, improved security for all calls, GPS location with everything being constantly monitored, recorded and updated.”

Trensurb, which operates the Porto Alegre metro, is linked to the Ministry of Regional Development.

The entity operates a network of 43.8km on the north axis of the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre. A total of 40 trains run on this network, which features 22 stations.

Trensurb also operates the first line of the automated people mover (APM), connecting Trensurb Airport Station to Terminal 1 of Salgado Filho International Airport.
