Saudi Arabian Railway Company (SAR) has contracted CAF to install its LeadMind digital train platform on six passenger trains.

The solution will enable real-time remote monitoring and condition-based maintenance (CBM) of these vehicles, which operate between Riyadh and Qurrayat.

The CAF-developed solution is already used by several railway operators, including Euskotren (Spain), Trenitalia (Italy), Amsterdam Tramway (GVB) (Netherland) and Metro de Santiago (Chile).

In March, CAF received the contract to install its LeadMind digital platform on Northern UK rail trains. This contract requires the Spanish railway company to install the system on 431 vehicles.

By next year, LeadMind will monitor more than 3,200 cars comprising 834 train units for 23 clients.

In February, SAR awarded a contract to Perpetuum to offer track condition information services for the 1250km-long rail line from Riyadh to Qurrayat.

It will help SAR to procure real-time information on track conditions and accordingly help in increasing operational safety.
