Consulting engineering group Ramboll has acquired UK rail signalling business DEG Signal to support its growth in the rail sector.

DEG Signal specialises in providing signalling consultancy and design services for mainline rail and metro systems.

It has experience of working with multiple clients, including TfL, Network Rail, Thales and Siemens.

“Having collaborated with Ramboll across a number of years, we couldn’t pick a better partner to join.”

DEG Signal recently completed the concept design for an alternative signalling protection system on London Overground interoperable lines and is currently working on the Thameslink Resilience Project, primarily on the Brighton Main Line.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Ramboll’s rail portfolio, which comprises High Speed 2 works and leading Network Rail’s Digital Rail programme, as well as the completion of important Crossrail stations.

It will also support Ramboll to upgrade Denmark’s entire rail signalling system, a key overseas project where it leads the contracted consortium.

Ramboll UK managing director Mathew Riley said: “We are very excited to be bringing the team at DEG Signal on board – they are a team we have worked with on multiple occasions and so we know that their excellent capabilities will help us to deliver even better value for clients.”

The acquisition will also enable the company to expand its multidisciplinary support for rail clients and bolster its rail signalling expertise.

DEG Signal chief executive Doug Green said: “Having collaborated with Ramboll across a number of years, we couldn’t pick a better partner to join.

“Their expertise and resources will be a major asset for our team and we are glad to be able to offer our clients a broader suite of services to support them in their projects.”
