Wireless solutions provider Nomad Digital has secured a contract to deploy telemanagement technology on over 140 trains of Norwegian State Railways (NSB).

The contract is part of NSB’s plans to reduce maintenance costs and improve fleet availability.

Developed by Nomad Tech, which is a joint venture (JV) between Nomad Digital and EMEF, the technology includes condition based monitoring, reliability centered maintenance apart from energy efficiency solutions.

"Our technology allows an operator to understand in real-time the location and condition of every asset within the network."

The technology allows fleet owners to manage operational performance of the trains remotely. In addition, it will help them in making fast and efficient decisions apart from improving safety, and increasing availability of trains.

Nomad Digital CEO Andrew Taylor said: "Secure high bandwidth wireless systems enable real-time remote diagnostics and real-time monitoring on trains, trams and buses.

"Our technology allows an operator to understand in real-time the location and condition of every asset within the entire network, enabling them to focus on improving both the cost and operational management of their business.

"Early detection of potential failures of on-board equipment, together with a full condition based monitoring system, allows for better predictive maintenance schemes, ultimately leading to improved reliability and availability of the rolling stock."
