As part of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) extension in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, China Steel Corporation has appointed Thales for the implementation of a signalling system.
The 4.6-year contract includes supply of interlocking solutions, traffic light priority systems and automatic vehicle localisation systems for the light rail system.
Chilean state-owned mass transport firm Empresa de Transporte de Pasajeros Metro S.A (Metro) has raised $500m by offering international bonds, which bear a coupon rate of 5% a year and will mature on 25 January 2047.
Proceeds from the offering will be used by the company to finance construction of new subway lines in Santiago, including lines 3 and 6, and also for extension of lines 2 and 3.
Alstom has secured an order from China Steel to deliver 15 Citadis X05 trams for Phase II of the Kaohsiung tramway project in Taiwan, which includes a 13.4km tram line with 23 stations.
The trams will be manufactured at the company’s La Rochelle site in France, will feature permanent magnet motors and an onboard energy storage solution called Citadis Ecopack.

On-site testing, training and warranty services will be provided from Alstom’s Sesto site in Italy.
Captrain Deutschland Group has awarded a contract to Bombardier Transportation for the supply of six Traxx multi-system locomotives for freight transport in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
The six Traxx MS locomotives are scheduled for delivery in 2018, and will be compatible with all common European voltages and suitable for cross-border traffic.
