Railway infrastructure manager Network Rail is planning to invest £4bn in Scotland railways between 2019 and 2024 in a bid to maintain and enhance the rail network in the area.

The move is set to create 200 jobs, which will be distributed across Scotland in the regions of the northeast, Highlands, Perthshire, the south-west and the central belt.

They are also are expected to strengthen the company’s workforce and help deliver planned works in Scotland’s railway over the next five years.

Network Rail Scotland human resources head Nick Pascazio said: “We’re currently building the best railway Scotland has ever had and to do that we need to recruit and retain the best people.”

“Rail travel is more popular now than ever before, with more than 96 million passengers travelling in Scotland each year, and our industry makes an important contribution to keeping the country and its economy moving.”

As part of its recruitment drive, the company will hire people in administrative, logistics and planning and rail operative roles and also fill technician, team leader, construction and project management positions.
