Indian Railways has announced the launch of the new ‘App-Based Bags on Wheels’ service for passengers for luggage deliveries.

Announced by Northern Railways’ Delhi Division, the new service can be used by passengers to carry their luggage from home to train coach and vice-versa upon their arrival in trains.

It is said to be the first service of its kind to be available to passengers in India.

The BOW APP will initially be available for Android and iPhone users travelling from Delhi, Ghaziabad and Gurugram.

According to officials, passengers can avail these services at a nominal cost. However, the price will depend on the distance to be covered in addition to the weight and quantity of their luggage.

A statement from the Northern Railways said: “The service will enhance the scope of earning for [Northern] Railways with straightaway non-fare revenue of INR50 lakh per annum, along with 10% revenue sharing for the period of one year.”

Door-to-door service will be provided to railway passengers for hassle-free and smooth handling.

Passengers can use the BOW APP to raise their demand for carrying their luggage to the railway station or to their home.

The contractor will pick their luggage in a secured manner and deliver it to the coach or home according to the passenger’s booking preference.

The service’s unique feature would be that the luggage delivery would be ensured before departure to provide an improved passenger travelling experience, the statement added.
