The Indian Railway Ministry has announced that it will carry out a study to develop the railway and ropeway network in the state of Uttarakhand on the lines of Switzerland.

According to a PTI report, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also sanctioned the final location survey of Indian Railways’ Tanakpur-Bageshwar line.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat previously requested the ministry to include the Tanakpur-Bageshwar railway line in the 2019-2020 financial year.

This track is expected to boost the region’s social and economic development.

Moreover, the railway minister has instructed officials in Uttarakhand to include another railway line on the Haridwar-Raiwala section and introduce a direct train service between Rishikesh and Dehradun.

An action plan will also be developed for the commercial utilisation of the old Rishikesh railway station.

Earlier this year, the new Yog Nagri Rishikesh railway station, which has been set up under the Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line project, commenced services.

This station features numerous modern, passenger-friendly amenities and facilities.

Indian Railways Jammu-Tawi Express was the first train to arrive at this new railway station, which is also the first station of the 125km-long Yoganagari Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line.

In a recent development, Indian Railways successfully conducted the trial run of an electric locomotive for the very first time in the northeastern state of Assam.

The new locomotive will support Indian Railways in providing electric rail connectivity to the isolated northeastern parts of the country.
