India-based Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) has secured Rs2.36bn ($31.8m) orders in two separate contracts from the Northeast Frontier Railway.

The contracts won in a joint venture (JV) with Vensar Constructions Company (VCCL) will involve the construction of Single Line BG Tunnels Lot 14A and Lot 15A on a 51.38km long Bairabi-Sairang New BG Rail line in the Indian state of Manipur.

In this JV, HCC has a share of 55% (Rs1.3bn ($17.56m)).

The latest order forms a part of the Bairabi-Sairang rail line, which is being implemented by Indian Railways to improve its network across the country’s northeastern region.

This rail line will connect Mizoram to the Indian Railways network up to Bairabi railway station, as well as aims to improve regional rail connectivity.

As part of Lot 14 A, the contract will involve the construction of single line BG Tunnel 14A (~160 M), BG two-line Tunnel 12A (~160 M) and balance work of Tunnel 11C (~120 M), Tunnel 11A (Lining for ~680 M) Tunnel 11B (~445 M), Tunnel 6B (Lining for ~160 M).

This will also include all other ancillary works between Hortoki and Mualkhang stations.

Work under Lot 15A will see the construction of Single Line BG Tunnels 15A (~182 M), 15B (~200 M) and 15C (~190 M), balance work of bridge 79.

Additionally, minor bridges 78A, 83, 84, 86, 87 will be built.

Furthermore, the contract will involve embankment or sub-bank work for 1.8km between Hortoki and Mualkhang stations in Mizoram.

The Bairabi-Sairang New BG Rail line project includes 32 underground tunnels, 55 major bridges, 87 minor bridges, and 16 cut and cover tunnels.

Covering the Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang railway stations, the line will also include five road underbridges (RUB) and five road overbridges (ROB).
