Bombardier has unveiled 1:1 FLEXITY tram model for public transport operator Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) in a bid to cater to the requirements of the city of Zurich, Switzerland.

The company said the solution offers capacity, accessibility, efficiency and passenger comfort for commuters.

VBZ showcased a model of the Bombardier FLEXITY trams at an event that was attended by journalists and Bombardier Transportation president Laurent Troger.

In March 2018, Bombardier Transportation and VBZ signed a contract, under which the former would deliver 70 FLEXITY low-floor trams.

“The tram sports wooden seats and open space, boosting the transits system’s capacity without requiring any additional infrastructure.”

The FLEXITY tram is claimed to have been designed as a convenient and efficient vehicle, with low-floors that make it easy for passengers to enter and exit the vehicle. It also features an energy-efficient HVAC heat pump, which makes it environmentally-friendly, while a driver’s assistance system offers safety for both passengers and pedestrians.

Passengers can also recharge their phones with USB connectors, while a LED light system will give an indication of whether the doors are locked or released.
