Bremer Straßenbahn (BSAG) in Germany has ordered ten additional Avenio trams from Siemens, which will operate around the Free Hanseatic City.

The original contract was signed in June last year and covered the delivery of 67 Avenio trams with an option for up to 17 additional vehicles.

The delivery of the newly ordered trams will begin in 2021, increasing the operator’s Avenio fleet to total of 77 units upon completion.

BSAG board spokesman Hajo Müller said: “With this supplementary order, BSAG will now be able to replace the entire fleet of old and defective 77 trams with just as many new and modern Avenios.

"Bremen has placed the biggest order to date for our latest generation of trams, and this further order from BSAG confirms the trust in our future-oriented product."

“We’re especially pleased that we can offer our customers a far better quality of rapid transit service with the new trams from Siemens.”

The first four-section trams were ordered last year and are scheduled to begin operating in Bremen from the first half of 2019.
