Bombardier Transportation has unveiled the design of Movia metros for Singapore’s mass rapid transit (MRT) Lines.

The rolling stock manufacturer was earlier contracted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to deliver 106 six-car Movia metro trains for the high-capacity North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL).

According to Bombardier, the design is inspired by the city’s vibrant charm while the exterior body exhibits red and green pulse lines to provide visual emphasis om passenger entry points.

Bombardier Transportation Southeast Asia president Jayaram Naidu said: “For the last seven years, the performance of our proven Movia metros has been moving millions of passengers on the Downtown Line, making their daily commute greener, quieter and safer than ever before.

“We are looking to further collaborate with LTA to introduce our globally game-changing metro trains to help enhance the travel experience, reduce energy consumption and improve rail reliability in Singapore.

“With 636 metro cars ordered for this project, this will bring the number of Movia vehicles in Singapore to 912, making it one of Bombardier’s largest metro fleets in the world.”

The Movia vehicles feature Bombardier Flexx metro bogies and a Bombardier Mitrac propulsion system to reduce maintenance costs.

They are also equipped with Train Control Monitoring System (TCMS) technology and predictive and condition-based monitoring features to improve operational efficiency.

Bombardier is responsible for the development, assembly, testing, commissioning and delivery of these trainsets for NSEWL system.

The Movia metro units are expected to enter passenger service from 2022.

Last month, Bombardier received another contract to upgrade Movia metro trainsets for Singapore’s Downtown Mass Rapid Transit line (DTL).
