“The new order will also boost activity at Alstom plants in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.”

Six of Alstom’s 12 plants in France are involved in the project. Reichshoffen will be responsible for the design and assembly, Ornans for the motors, Tarbes for the traction chains, Le Creuset will develop the bogies, Villeurbanne will deliver the onboard IT systems and Saint-Ouen for the design.

Belonging to Alstom’s Coradia range of trains, the Coradia Polyvalent comes with a modular architecture to adapt to different types of usage, including suburban, regional and intercity.

It comes in three length variants and is said to consume less energy. It adheres to the latest emissions standards in thermal mode and has low maintenance costs.

Additionally, the vehicles are also equipped to operate under the rail interoperability standard European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) technology.

In March, Alstom won a contract worth more than €150m to supply 41 Coradia Lint regional trains to Germany.
