Alstom has received an order worth around €200m to supply 49 Citadis trams to the French city of Nantes.

As agreed, the rolling stock manufacturer will deliver low-floor light rail vehicles with more accessible components to Nantes Métropole.

According to Alstom, the trams will be energy efficient and more than 99% recyclable.

Seven company sites in France will be involved with the order. The La Rochelle site will be responsible for logistical support, as well as the design and assembly of the trams, while Le Creusot and Ornans sites will deliver bogies and traction motors respectively.

In addition, the Valenciennes site will be in charge of interior layout, Aix-en-Provence for protection and driver assistance system, Villeurbanne for on-board electronic systems and Saint-Ouen for after-sales service.

Alstom France senior vice-president Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud said: “The city of Nantes, which initiated the renewal of the modern tram in the 1980s, has made its mark on the history of urban transport in France.

“We are extremely proud that the city of Nantes has once again trusted us to equip its network with our state-of-the-art Citadis trams.”

To date, Alstom has sold more than 2,600 Citadis trams to over 50 cities across 20 countries.

Last month, the company delivered the first two Citadis X05 trams to Attiko Metro, the urban transport authority of Athens.

It was also contracted earlier this year to supply 17 additional Citadis trams to Eurometropole of Strasbourg and Strasbourg Transport Company (CTS) in France.
