French company Alstom has announced that its new automatic MP14 metros have been deployed on Line 14 extension to the station Mairie de Saint-Ouen in Paris, France.

Operated by RATP, the MP14 metro will now cover the entire Line 14, from Olympiades to Mairie de Saint-Ouen.

The automated, rubber-tyred metro is made up of eight cars and has been financed by Île-de-France Mobilités, the organisation that handles the Paris transport network.

Alstom chairman and CEO Henri Poupart-Lafarge said: “We are particularly proud to see the MP14 metros entering commercial service as far as the Mairie de Saint-Ouen station.

“These metros, which we designed and manufactured at eight Alstom sites in France, now serve the head office of the Alstom group.

“The arrival of the MP14 metros will directly improve the daily lives of tens of thousands of people, including the 3,000 employees of the Alstom group based in Saint-Ouen.

Alstom claimed that the design of the train will improve passenger experience and delivers energy efficiency, ease of maintenance and reduced costs.

The metro features full electric braking system, which will help decrease fine particle emissions, as well as air pollution by up to 17%.

With a 95% recyclability rate, MP14 is also 40% quieter with -2dB noise level.

Each consisting of eight cars, around 20 automated metros will be delivered next year for Line 14.

Production of the six-car automated metros for Line 4 is currently at the pre-production and testing phase.

The five-car metros for Line 11 will be manufactured in Q4 2020 with qualification tests to take place in 2021.

In total, eight of Alstom’s 14 France-based sites are involved this project.
