Double-decker trains are common across Europe but have never made it to the UK, partly due to space restrictions. But now, several ideas are gaining traction, one being the AeroLiner3000 proposed by Andreas Vogler Studios. We profile this train design and the possibility that double-decker trains could one day be introduced to Britain, as a solution to continual overcrowding.

In projects, we look at Columbia’s Bogotá metro line as it finally gains construction funding, take a culture trip across the world’s best themed trains, learn about the latest concepts for high-volume urban rail networks, and speak with UK travel technology firm SilverRail about building on the commercial potential of the international rail travel market.

Plus, the US-based International Association of Fire Chiefs has been contracted to keep training first responders in dealing railway emergencies involving flammable liquids. We find out what it takes to do the right thing when the worst happens.

Future Rail is now available across all digital devices. You can also continue to read the magazine using the web viewer. It’s free to read and you can join the conversation on Twitter.
