The second-generation Talgo 350 features several components by Voith Turbo Scharfenberg. Until October 2008, the first of 60 front ends with couplers and cross beams will be delivered, each consisting of a complete front nose and cabin roof. Voith Turbo Scharfenberg has already equipped Talgo 250 with front-ends of similar complexity.
With this project, Voith Turbo Scharfenberg proves its proficiency in dynamic strength calculations, GRP dimensioning and crash simulation. More and more rail vehicle manufacturers tend to install integrated supplier systems, such as the Spanish manufacturer Talgo, a company of the Bombardier group.
Roof, front nose and front hatches form one front-end system. Delivery includes the roof, its vitrification and the vitrification of the light casings, as well as the mounting of wipers, shades and lighting. The front hatches protect the front-end interior from rain, snow, impurities and debris. The hatches are controlled from the driver’s cabin.
The second-generation Talgo 350 will be equipped with an automatic Scharfenberg coupler, type 10. The coupler is attached to two crash boxes by means of a cross beam. Thus, up to two megajoule of energy can be absorbed in the case of a crash. In addition, the weight of the supporting frame has been optimized compared to the first generation. A new feature is the function of the front fairing, which also serves as rail guard thanks to its load suspension of 350kN.
