Hannover – The Polish telecommunications provider, TK Telekom, has completely modernised the telecommunications network belonging to the Polish railway company Polskie Koleje Państwowe (PKP) that controls railway traffic. LineRunner SCADA, KEYMILE’s broadband transmission system, was adopted as the technical infrastructure. Even in tough ambient conditions throughout the railway system, the new communications network provides reliable and secure data transmission.
By gaining the Polish provider, TK Telekom and its customer the Polish railway company PKP, KEYMILE, a leading manufacturer and supplier of next-generation access networks, has won another important company from the public transportation sector. During this project, KEYMILE will be able to contribute its extensive, long-standing experience and skills in the services of private network providers; particularly in the railway segment, which places high demands on safety, reliability and durability.
Since the end of last year, TK Telekom has been installing KEYMILE’s LineRunner supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for enhanced control and monitoring of traffic. Services provided include quick and reliable communications between various sections along the line – railway crossings, signals, etc., and the main station, as well as rail control technology.
Thanks to LineRunner SCADA’s modular concept of line interfaces that allows different transmission media, the existing 15,000km of copper and 6,000km of fibre optic lines and much of the terminal equipment can continue to be used. There is no need for the customer to exchange lines and hardware.
The individual LineRunner SCADA systems are integrated into PKP’s centrally operated network management system, LineRunner ASMOS. The equipment is EMC-tested, resistant to magnetic radiation on railway lines, durable and can be used outdoors. As a result, it is perfect for railways.
LineRunner SCADA is a broadband transmission system for reliable and cost-effective data transmission of up to 5.7MB/s in telecontrol systems. LineRunner SCADA gives the Polish railway company additional bandwidth and increases the reliability and quality of data transmission.
LineRunner SCADA uses SHDSL as the transmission technology. LineRunner SCADA NG is a next generation multidrop-system that exchanges data via a network in a row. As each station requires access to all other locations, a mixture of line and ring was selected as topology. The ring structure provides a high level of protection from malfunction throughout the entire communications network.
