HUBER + SUHNER’s latest innovation for the Railways market is the CAT5/CAT5e Databus cable RADOX®RailCat. Especially developed for the Railways market it fulfills the burning features according to DIN 5510-2 and BS 6853 as well as the requirements for databus cables according to EN50288-2-2.
ICE 61375 is the well-known and established standard for data communication in the rail industry which has been specially tailored to the requirements of this industry by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission). This standard defines the data transfer network in trains, including all connectors, cables, interfaces and protocols, collectively known as the Train Communication Network (TCN). The aim of the standard is to ensure PLUG-IN compatibility for the exchange of data both within a rail vehicle, be it a locomotive or wagon, and between the rail vehicles of one train, i.e. from wagon to wagon and from wagon to locomotive.
Creative Design
When designing CAT5, the integral and systematic analysis and evaluation of rail and communication standards gave us a basis for supplying the rail market with an alternative to conventional cables. Our alternative has a promising future and takes cost-benefit aspects into consideration. Creative design in the cross-section, particularly the conductor configuration, finish and construction, gives the CAT5 a high standard of safety and quality.
