MINMAX Releases MKZI10 and MKZI20 Railway Certified DC-DC Converters

MINMAX Technology has announced the launch of MKZI10 and MKZI20 series of high-capacity isolated DC-DC converters designed for critical railway applications.

MINMAX’s high-caliber MKZI10 and MKZI20 series, incorporating top-end features such as remote on / off, output voltage trim, over current, short circuit, and over-voltage protection, offers the best-in-class solution for complex railway systems while conforming to Railway EMC standard EN 50121-3-2 and Railway Certification EN50155(IEC 60571).

The MKZI10 series of DC-DC converters

Encapsulated within an industrial standard 2in×1in package, the MINMAX MKZI10 series of 10W isolated DC-DC converters include 18 models, which integrate input voltages of 24(9~36)VDC, 48(18~75)VDC, and 72/110(40~160)VDC with tight output voltage regulation.

The series, specially designed for rugged railway applications, meets dry and damp heat test IEC/EN 60068-2-1 2 30, as well as vibration and thermal shock / bump test EN 61373, complying with Railway Certification EN 50155 (IEC 60571) and Railway EMC standard EN 50121-3-2.

MINMAX’s MKZI20 is a 20W isolated DC-DC converter series encapsulated within an industrial standard 2in×1in package. The high-performance converter series, ideal for complicated railway applications, incorporates 18 variants, offering input voltages of 24(9~36)VDC, 48(18~75)VDC, and 72/110(40~160)VDC with tight output voltage regulation.

The MKZI20 series conforms to vibration and thermal shock/bump test EN 61373, dry and damp heat test IEC/EN 60068-2-1,2,30, conducted EMI EN 55032/11 class A, and FCC level A. The high-grade DC-DC converter series also adheres to Railway EMC standard EN 50121-3-2 and Railway Certification EN 50155 (IEC 60571).

EN50155 input voltage specification certification for MINMAX MKZI10 and MKZI20 series

MINMAX’s latest DC-DC converter offerings, the MKZI10 series, and the MKZI20 series, incorporate input voltage ranges specified by the EN50155 railway certification standard.

The best-in-class DC-DC converters, drawing power from the train’s storage battery source, usually 24VDC, 36VDC, 48VDC, 72VDC, 96VDC, or 110VDC, operate within the same range during normal operations without the need for any voltage stabilising device.

In addition, the railway certified DC-DC converter families also cover voltage spikes, transients, and brown-outs as per the EN50155 standard for railway electronic equipment system, withstanding input voltage drops of 0.6VN for 100ms, and over-voltage surges of 1.4VN for 1s, which might occur during start-up.

MINMAX MKZI10 and MKZI20 railway certified DC-DC converters have a 3000-VAC isolation with vacuum encapsulated, reinforced insulation.

The DC-DC converter modules, verified by UL organization, comply with the required voltage isolation criteria of EN50155 by creating a solid electrical barrier that protects sensitive and sophisticated circuits from noise, transient voltage spikes, electromagnetic disturbances, electric shocks, surges, power bus fluctuations, and insulation breakdown of power architectures.

The MKZI10 and MKZI20 converter modules also protect circuits from mechanical damages and shorts developing between PCB tracks, air gaps, ground loops, and arcing, which create ignition and fire situations.
