ABSOPULSE Electronics BAP 1KR-U7712 series railway grade dc/dc converters deliver up to 1kW output power with convection cooling and no fans or forced air are required. These units meet the requirements of EN 50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. An industrial grade version of this design is also available.

The BAP 1KR-U7712 units operate from a 110Vdc (66-154V) input. They provide tightly regulated outputs of 24Vdc/40A, 48Vdc/20A, 110Vdc/9A or 125Vdc/8A. Other input and output voltages are available on request.

The 1kW converters contain two internal modules, each capable of generating 500W (minimum). This design has inherent redundancy which ensures that the unit remains functional at 500W if one internal module fails. A dual output version with two independent, fully regulated outputs of 500W each is also possible. Several units may be connected in parallel if output power higher than 1kW is required. The internal models are fully ruggedised and conformal coated for immunity to shock, vibration and moisture. They are housed in a compact 7in x 7in x 12in chassis-mount enclosure.

The BAP 1KR-U7712 converters have input and output filtering in compliance with EN50121-3-2 conducted and radiated EMI standards. They also meet relevant EN61000 standards. The units have large design headroom and are rated for operation over at full specification over a -25°C to +55°C temperature range. Extended temperature ranges are available.

Efficiency at full load is 85% (minimum), depending on the input/output configuration. Protection features include 3,000Vdc input/output isolation, overload, over-voltage and short circuit protection with thermal shutdown and self-resetting. A module fail alarm (Form C) and remote shutdown are available as options.

Standard versions of the BAP 1KR-U7712 series are priced in the US$748 range in quantities of 100.
