Quintiq, a global leader in supply chain planning and optimization (SCP&O), has announced that its solution has been chosen by Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois (CFL) to improve crew and fleet planning and scheduling.

CFL is the national passenger rail operator of Luxembourg and transported over 20 million passengers last year. CFL also conducted a market study and, after evaluating several options, the rail operator found that Quintiq stood out from competitors for its reputation, ease of use and expandability.

Quintiq’s single software platform aligns the planning of crew and units with train service requests, while factoring in resource constraints and CFL-specific labor regulations. CFL planners will input the approved timetabled services into the Quintiq solution, which in turn will generate the rolling stock and motorized unit assignments, as well as the corresponding crew and train personnel planning and scheduling.

The Quintiq software platform will support CFL in managing disruptions, as well as enable CFL to maintain the punctuality of its services while optimizing costs.

CFL project manager Tom Nickels said: "We wanted a proven solution that would support and evolve with the expansion of our business.

"The primary criterion in selecting the new system was flexibility. In order to cover all our specific needs, we also needed a solution that operated much like our existing software to make the transition easier for our employees. Quintiq’s solution met all our needs."

"We are very proud to assist CFL in its efforts to improve customer service and business performance," said Arjen Heeres, COO of Quintiq.

"Together with our industry expertise in the rail sector, Quintiq’s software will help CFL meet its goals with a fit for purpose solution that can adapt over time. CFL’s choice is another strong validation of Quintiq’s unique value in the rail industry.
