Andrew Solutions, a division of CommScope, a global leader in wireless communication systems and products, will provide a coverage and capacity system for essential wireless communications in the Shanxi Province section of the forthcoming Taiyuan-Zhongwei-Yinchuan high speed railway in China.

The massive Taiyuan-Zhongwei-Yinchuan railway will run over 900km long upon completion, and includes the Luliangshan Tunnel of over 20km. Andrew will supply Radiax radiating cable and accessories for distributing wireless signals within the tunnel and along the railway in Shanxi Province. Andrew has supplied wireless coverage and capacity equipment for numerous high-speed railways and subways before in China, including the Beijing-Tianjin and Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan high-speed railways, and the Beijing Metro in advance of the 2008 Summer Olympics.

"Andrew has a long resume of supporting network coverage and capacity systems, whether they are in high speed railways and subways or the world’s largest stadiums, airports, and office buildings," said Chinnee Tong, vice president of sales, Andrew China. "Our Radiax radiating cable products, digital repeaters, and other in-building solutions have been implemented in wireless communication systems all over the world."

Andrew’s coverage and capacity system for the Taiyuan-Zhongwei-Yinchuan railway will support essential communications in the public network, supporting railway operations and emergency responders. Andrew manufactures Radiax cable and accessories in its Suzhou plant, a testament to Andrew’s local presence in the Chinese marketplace.

"Andrew is proud that our expertise continues to be recognised and called upon by Chinese rail authorities for supporting important staff and passenger wireless communications," said Matt Melester, senior vice president, wireless innovations, Andrew. "High-speed railway projects are challenging because the accelerated velocity, metalised windows and fluctuating signal levels complicate handoffs and connectivity."

The Taiyuan-Zhongwei-Yinchuan railway is expected to support commodity export activity in western China, in addition to passenger transportation, and strengthen the economic connection between east and west China. Regional cities such as Yinchuan and Yulin along the railway should benefit from the new trade route.

Freight transportation is forecasted to reach over 45 million tons along this rail line by 2015.
