With London Bridge station’s new concourse now partly open and fitted with Infotec passenger information screens, work has now started on manufacture of displays for phase three of the huge redevelopment project.
The latest work will see over 100 hundred units being supplied, including new TR Series 42in TFTs for platform 4 and 5.
These ruggedised displays have recently been supplied on the other Thameslink programme stations, including Farringdon, City Thameslink and Blackfriars, and are designed to handle the increased number of services on the network.
In 2011, Infotec was pleased to be the chosen supplier for phase one of the London station’s display upgrade. This included A-to-Z displays at the platform entrances along with a new main board on the concourse and dozens of other displays around the platforms and station entrances.
Infotec designed and manufactured displays for phase two of the project, which saw the new concourse area being brought into use at the end of August.
The concourse, bigger in area than the Wembley stadium pitch, ensures all platforms can be easily accessed from one single location.
Phase two, awarded to Infotec by the UK’s leading independent engineering, IT and facilities services business, N G Bailey, includes scores of passenger information displays at various locations throughout the station – platforms, the street level concourse and the Joiner Street entrance among them.
The majority of equipment comes from Infotec’s standard product range and uses common components to ensure ease of maintenance. Bespoke displays (P1195 – platform and P1208 – escalator) were produced for the project but were simple adaptations of existing tried and tested designs.
In addition to a uniformity of appearance, the brief also demanded that the displays offer good visibility, low maintenance and high reliability. Infotec’s LED technology has met these needs, while the company’s in-house design and manufacturing departments have ensured displays have fitted into the station environment without the need for any major structural upheaval.
Infotec provided a dozen TFTs for the ticket office areas and is also supplying some of its new MR Series TFTs for use as Operational Information System (OIS) displays. These large format units (up to 70in) allow Network Rail to provide passengers with additional travel details including disruption notices, security information and changes to services updates.
