Display Installations at First Great Western High-Speed Stations

Completion of displays for Bristol Temple Meads station marks the final piece in a very large project carried out by Infotec for Thales.

Hundreds of displays to be deployed as next train indicators, summary and special notices boards have been shipped to various Great Western high speed stations including Tiverton Parkway, Didcot Parkway, Plymouth, Newton Abbot, Exeter, Bath, Taunton and Chippenham.

The locations are used on a regular basis by commuters as well as tourists and it is absolutely vital that clear and up to date information is available for these high profile stations.

While the majority of the displays were of standard design, Infotec built tailor-made solutions for some locations.

Bristol Temple Meads was one of those requiring a bespoke design. To provide a main display for the narrow passageway into the station, a new dual screen display had to be created to fit within the limited space available, and to comply with the building heritage requirements. This busy station alone sees more than nine million passengers every year.

In addition to the need for displays, the project also required the completion of static strength calculations needed for and the design of display support steelwork.

A good number of locations required bespoke support structures which kept Kevin Hancock, our project engineer responsible for mechanical design, extremely busy.

Commenting on the work, Kevin said: "We are used to working closely with customers to find solutions that meet a wide variety of needs. With Great Western the requirement for bespoke steelwork was proportionately quite high but we rose to the challenges and provided what was needed."

Steve Hames, Infotec’s Project Manager added: "It’s always challenging to meet the needs of a project of this magnitude but that is our job. The team at Infotec works hard, does its best for the customer and then enjoys the sense of pride that comes with knowing the very best was done to complete the job."

The experience gained from this contract has been of huge benefit to Infotec. It is the ability to deliver on projects like this that keeps the company at the forefront of the CIS market and provides customers with the assurance that their projects are in safe and experienced hands.
