300W, High-Temperature, High-Reliability, Convection-Cooled Railway DC-DC Converters


The BHT-319R-F4 series of railway quality DC-DC converters is designed for an operating life of 30 years at high temperatures. The convection-cooled units deliver 300W continuous output power over a -40°C to 85°C temperature range without derating. By eliminating optocouplers and electrolytic capacitors, the mean time between failures (MTBF) of the units is increased significantly over conventional converter designs.

The converters meet the requirements of EN50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. They accept inputs of 72V, 96V, 110VDC, with wide EN50155 input ranges, and comply with EMC standard EN50121-3-2. The units deliver a 24V, 48V, 72V or 125VDC. Custom input and output voltages are available on request.

Comprehensive electronic protection includes over-voltage, overload and short circuit protection as well as thermal shutdown with automatic recovery. Input to output isolation is 3,000VDC. Rugged construction ensures that the units withstand high levels of shock and vibration.

An industrial quality version of this design, the BHT-319-F4, is also available.
