Rail One achieves further project success with Rheda City.

By now, more than 130km of Rheda City track has been laid in numerous German cities, including Berlin, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, and Nuremberg. The north-south urban transit railway in Cologne (Stadtbahn) represents a very special challenge: according to the Cologne public transport authorities (KVB), the largest urban construction project currently in Germany. Almost the entire 4km rail line has been constructed underground, including 30m under the Philharmonic Hall.

In order to prevent noise disturbance of concerts, this line must of course meet the most stringent demands for noise and vibration protection. For the first constriction stage, Rail One is delivering 650m of track and, in collaboration with the company BWG GmbH & Co. KG, two turnouts with high elastic support of the rails. System monitoring is an additional component of the project contract for Rail One.

Rheda City is now being employed for the first time in Warsaw, Poland, over a length of 5,000m. Until mid-August of 2007, Rail One will deliver the system to the Polish capital, and will contribute to upgrading of the Aleje Jerozolimskie tram line in the city. In addition to engineering

RAIL ONE – ENSURING QUALITY

Rail One is also responsible for quality control. As a European metropolis, Warsaw is being confronted with major new challenges in the field of mass rapid transit. Warsaw transit authorities are planning to cope with the growing volume of public transit users by expanding their underground and urban transit railway networks.

Rail One looks forward to this development with positive expectations for further projects in Poland. The city of Warsaw now offers more than 30 tram lines, with a total length of 122km and a daily passenger volume of around 1.5 million transit patrons.

This contract will once again confirm the benefits of Rheda City track technology, here on the international scene as well. The following international communities have become convinced by the favourable characteristics of this product, in combination with its great cost effectiveness: Nantes in France, Chur in Switzerland, The Hague in The Netherlands, and especially Bucharest in Romania. Bucharest has until now placed orders for 20km of Rheda City track.

THE RHEDA CITY BALLASTLESS TRACK SYSTEM

Rheda City functions according to the same principle as all systems in the Rheda family. It was especially developed for mass urban transit applications, however, and is especially well suited for use with trams and urban transit railways. The Rheda City technology features bi-block sleepers that are concreted together with a lattice truss structure to form a monolithic track slab. The rails rest on the sleepers on individual elastic supports points, or over a system of continuous elastic support. For level crossings and other sensitive areas, special solutions are available. Rheda City is also available as vegetated track.
