On Track Throughout the World
ContiTech AG (hall 1.2 booth 218) is the world’s largest specialist in rubber and plastics technology in the non-tire rubber sector - as well as being an established system supplier for rail transportation technology.
Experts at the ContiTech Railway Engineering (CRE) segment of ContiTech Air Spring Systems offer products for primary and secondary suspension - from air springs to rubber-metal springs. The merger of ContiTech and Phoenix has both expanded and strengthened the technological potential of the suspension specialists for rail vehicles.
Through these joint operations, ContiTech is able to face any challenge posed by modern rail vehicle suspension technology - whether for local, long-distance or high-speed rail services. The international presence and close cooperation with customers, in particular with vehicle manufacturers, train companies, engineering offices and construction companies, has accelerated the development of customized products. These products enhance the safety, comfort and economic efficiency of trains.
ContiTech has more than 50 years’ experience in the development of elastomer components and complex suspension systems for rail vehicles. State-of-the-art calculation programs and testing techniques maintain the company’s technological edge. Research and testing include:
- Computer aided engineering
- Finite elements technique
- Multi-body simulations
- Service life predictions
- Multi-axial test stands – which enable the provision of a full range of engineering and project management services
ContiTech Railway Engineering thus helps improve traveling comfort, economic efficiency and safety on a global level: in high-speed trains from the U.S. to China, passenger trains from Canada to South America, street and underground rail systems in the world’s biggest metropolises, as well as in the freight transportation business. An example of this is GIGABOX, a joint development with SKF of a non-wearing system of wheel set bearings and hydraulic springs for reduced noise emis-sions, reduced environmental impact and improved safety in rail cargo transport, with service intervals of ten years or one million kilometers.
ContiTech Railway Engineering is currently involved in a large number of projects in the growth markets of China and India. One of the latest prestigious projects is the recently completed Tibet railway. Despite extremely thin air and permanently frozen ground, special ContiTech air spring systems provide comfort and safety on the world’s highest railway.
