Reacting to the increasing demand for In Car PCs, vehicle-mounted on board computers and mobile data terminals (MDTs), Steatite have appointed David Bates as Business Development Manager to head up a new division focusing on vehicle fixed computers into UK Emergency Services and other vertical markets concentrating on mobilising the workforce. David’s appointment with Steatite Limited’s Mobile Systems Division will significantly enhance Steatite’s strengths in vehicle mounted solutions.

David Bates joins Steatite after 22 years with Microbus Limited, a UK based SME that specialised in the design and manufacture of embedded PCs and mobile vehicle computers. During this time, David fulfilled many roles including Director of Product Portfolio Development and Director of Microbus AV, an associated company. David’s career has also included 6 years with Rapid Recall carrying out pre-sales as a Field Applications Engineer which progressed to promotion in 1987 to Franchise Management.

Whilst studying his Computer Science Degree, David spent 15 months at the Admiralty Underwater Weapons Establishment in Portland carrying out duties such as programming, data decoding and system management. After graduating he joined Cosser Electronics where he rapidly progressed through senior programmer, software designer to senior software designer.

David’s knowledge and experience will be a great addition Steatite’s existing capabilities, helping to support such programs with extensive knowledge in the design and development of rugged systems into a wide range of industry sectors. Steatite Mobile
