Kista, Sweden, 19th of September 2006 – TagMaster, world-wide manufacturer and marketer of RFID based identification systems in the 2.45 GHz range, launches the new LR-6 HD reader as part of their heavy-duty RFID product line. The LR-6 HD reader is developed for applications where a higher environmental classification is required for the reader, for example in railway situations where track-side mounting is required. The reader is perfectly designed to meet the needs of the railway industry. The LR-6 HD can identify ID-tags at a range of up to 6 metres and at a passage speed of up to 400 km/h.

TagMaster is specialised in high performance RFID-technology and a leading supplier of RFID equipment to the rail industry. The advanced RFID-technology delivers information to both onboard and track-side systems in rail applications such as:

  • Traffic control
  • CBTC (Communication Based Train Control)
  • Passenger information
  • Maintenance and quality control

Examples of installations include national railways, underground systems/subways, trams as well as truck and bus depots.

"The identification of objects, such as vehicles in a transportation system, is absolutely crucial in order to achieve operational efficiency. TagMaster’s RFID system provides the best means to identify and position these assets at high speed, with high precision and in the most demanding of environments," said Magnus Rehn, President of TagMaster. "The LR-6 HD is the next step in our continuously evolving offering to the railway market and a great complement to our new generation of products".

TagMaster’s heavy-duty readers are robust and designed for extremely tough conditions. The readers are designed to withstand vibrations as well as being highly resistant to electrical interference. The readers are built to withstand climatic conditions such as rain, ice and high or low temperatures.

LR-6HD Reader

The LR-6HD is a heavy-duty 2.45 GHz RFID reader with a read-range up to 6 metres. The LR-6 HD reader is developed for applications where a higher environmental classification is required for the reader, for example in railway solutions where track-side mounting is required. The reader can be installed at key locations such as stations, terminal entrances or maintenance centres, allowing trains fitted with ID-tags to be automatically identified.

The reader’s specification has been matched to meet the needs of the rail industry, and the LR-6 HD can identify ID-tags at passage speeds of up to 400 km/h. This new reader is built around a standard Linux operating system and has an open development platform. This enables integrators to quickly develop and implement new applications for the LR-6 HD reader. The reader can be configured and controlled either via its serial interfaces or using the built-in Ethernet interface, either locally or remotely via an Internet connection.

Fast Facts:

  • The LR-6 Heavy Duty is a 2.45 GHz RFID reader with a read-range up to 6 metres (20 ft)
  • Tested and conforms to railway standards
  • Power supply: 10 to 30 VDC
  • Encapsulation: IP 65
  • Interfaces: Ethernet (TCP/IP), RS232, RS485, Wiegand/Mag-stripe

The LR-6 HD is part of the new generation of readers launched in April 2006, which incorporate the latest cutting edge technology.

TagMaster New Generation

This new generation of long-range readers has a brand new exterior developed together with industrial designer Avalon to provide a clean and modern design, reflecting its Scandinavian roots.

The readers offer several innovative features making them easier to install and integrate into existing systems. An open source Linux platform has been selected for this new generation of readers, making them easier to modify to suit individual needs. By incorporating features such as Ethernet connectivity and web based management tools, the readers support the latest developments in system design now being introduced in the industry. The new generation is fully backwards compatible and can be installed in existing installations.

The new generation contains three models, the LR-3, LR-6 and LR-12 readers. The number indicates the range of the reader, for example the LR-3 provides a read-range of up to three meters. The readers all operate in the 2.45 GHz frequency band, which is license free and approved all around the world.
