KEYMILE has added an additional Ethernet switch unit, enhancing capabilities of its multi-service access system UMUX with Power-over-Ethernet functions. With this feature, devices with no local power supply can be conveniently connected and powered via an Ethernet cable.

KEYMILE, one of the leading producers of Next-Generation data transmission systems, has significantly boosted existing Ethernet functions in its UMUX access system. With the new card, operators of public and private communications networks can use Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) functions and connect areas with no local power supply via Ethernet cables. Such scenarios are typical for operators of motorways, railways, local public transport, oil and gas pipelines, utility companies and waterways. Ethernet’s availability in different terminal equipment in remote areas is vast: wireless access nodes, IP telephony, local wireless networks, video cameras and access control systems.

In these cases, power supplied via Ethernet cable offers decisive advantages. Network operators save costs because laying power supply cables becomes unnecessary. Equipment connected by Ethernet can even be installed in places with poor access, or where additional cables would get in the way. Power-over-Ethernet installations not only provide power without any additional infrastructure, but also give the possibility to offer a central back-up system in the event of power failure by allowing the battery back-up for the telecommunications equipment to function as well as back up for the end devices.

The eight-port Ethernet switch card works with other UMUX units. Consequently, it is a key solution for switched Ethernet services and transmission of these services via Ethernet or SDH networks. Power-over-Ethernet (12.95W maximum) and Power-over-Ethernet Plus (29.5W maximum) are supported. UMUX and its diverse services are administered centrally. By using one single network management system, operators save costs and accelerate the provisioning process.

The new Ethernet switch card is available immediately.
