TagMaster’s Spanish partner SIMEC has won a major order from Telefónica in Spain to supply the TagMaster RFID system for use at their new head office in Madrid. Telefónica is a versatile business group within the telecommunication and IT sector, with over 122 million worldwide customers. SIMEC’s order includes the supply of vehicle access control systems including TagMaster’s 2.45GHz RFID readers and ID-tags. The order will be supplied in phases over the next two years.

The prestigious new Telefónica head office building campus (200,000m²) called "Distrito C" is designed by the architect Rafael de la Hoz and is being built in the northern area of Madrid in Spain. When completed, it will accommodate 14,000 Telefónica employees and includes parking spaces for around 5,000 vehicles. The building will be constructed in 4 phases, the first being due for completion in 2005. Each phase includes 20 entry and exit points within each 2-level underground parking area.

SIMEC is responsible for supplying the complete vehicle access control system, including around 90 TagMaster readers and 5,000 ID-tags, to Telefónica Ingeniería de Seguridad, a subsidiary of Telefónica for global security. "We are very pleased to be selected, after 4 years of co-operation, as the supplier for such a prominent project in Madrid", says Ignacio Domínguez, Managing Director of SIMEC, "By combining TagMaster’s RFID system with our expertise, we were able to offer Telefónica a truly world-class hands-free solution for this project".
