Esterel Technologies has announced the immediate availability of Esterel SCADE Display™ 6.0, the first design and development environment for mission and safety-critical embedded display applications qualified under DO-178B and providing native support for OpenGL® SC.

Developed in conjunction with leading airframe and cockpit display manufacturers, SCADE Display supports the safety-critical profile for OpenGL (OpenGL SC) and enables portability of the automatically generated and deployed applications across a variety of hardware platforms. It ensures long-term retrofit and maintenance options and the optimization of lifecycle development costs for cockpit and display applications. It improves the productivity of embedded display application developers, helps them produce qualifiable applications faster, and ultimately gives them the capability to improve the maintainability of the systems they develop.

GRAPHICAL DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT

SCADE Display’s core capabilities offers productivity and quality benefits to the developer. First and foremost, SCADE Display is a graphical design environment itself, which is easy to learn and use. It gives developers the ability to quickly construct cutting-edge display applications (through automatic support of high-quality vectorial drawings, complex masking, bitmaps, texture mapping, haloing, and anti-aliasing). SCADE Display users quickly become proficient in display application development.

SCADE Display includes a unique built-in ergonomics checker that improves design quality by providing and checking the design against modeling guidelines, conventions, and naming rules, which have been implemented with the assistance of industry experts in display application development. It provides the user with suggested design alterations and enables the optimization of graphical specifications.

SCADE Display KCG 6.0 offers unprecedented code generation capabilities. Qualifiable as a development tool under the military and aerospace DO-178B standard up to level A, this code generator improves both the time-to-certification and testing costs by generating production quality code. It eliminates the costs and time associated with unit level testing. The SCADE Display qualification kit provides all the artifacts produced by Esterel Technologies during the development of the tool and required by certification authorities in DO-178B 8110.49 such as:

  • Tool qualification plan (TQP)
  • Software requirements data
  • Software installation Procedure (SIP)
  • Version content (VC)
  • Software configuration index (SCI)
  • Tool accomplishment summary (TAS)

Until the release of SCADE Display, embedded display application developers have had to work manually or with a non-integrated collection of design tools for designing, implementing, and testing their applications. Although SCADE Display can be used as a standalone graphics development tool, the SCADE family of products offers an integrated approach for both the behavioural logic application development and the embedded graphics development.

CERTIFIED CODE GENERATION TECHNOLOGY AND INTEGRATED WORKFLOW

SCADE Suite addresses the needs of the application developer who designs and implements the overall behavioural logic of the display application. SCADE Display addresses the needs of the embedded graphics display designer. Both products offer certified code generation technology and an integrated workflow, which greatly expedite time-to-certification, as well as integrated documentation generation, configuration management, and requirements management capabilities. Therefore, this tightly integrated solution addresses the needs of developers in the mission and safety-critical embedded display domain, from requirements to deployment, test, and maintenance.

“Our commitment to the mission and safety-critical industries has enabled us to develop a unique value proposition for the complete ecosystem of the embedded display industry, from airframe developers to cockpit integrators and user application developers,” said Eric Bantegnie, Esterel’s President and CEO. “In addition to our innovative technologies, we continue to form and build strategic partnerships with operating system providers, device driver companies, and hardware companies, providing and ensuring our customers have the very best-in-class solutions to their embedded development needs.”
