HUBER+SUHNER has introduced the ‘Connected Train’ complete rail connectivity concept, which makes use of various radio frequency, low frequency and fibre-optic technologies and devices.

The company will showcase its extensive portfolio of components to streamline rail connectivity and reform passenger experience at InnoTrans 2018 on 18-21 September in Berlin, Germany.

Truly a one-stop-shop for operators moving into the next generation of rail and rail connectivity, InnoTrans 2018 will see HUBER+SUHNER showcase energy, signal and data bus cables, as well as a number of antennas for train-borne and train-to-ground communication. The solutions on display provide a holistic view of the ‘Connected Train’ concept.

RADOX®, the benchmark for railway cables have been designed to meet the high demands of today’s industry. Over the last couple of years, the product portfolio has increased significantly and now includes RF and fibre-optic cables meeting the stringent fire requirements of EN4545-2. RADOX® cables offer the operator and train builder significant space and weight savings, with up to more than 40% achievable compared to conventional products.

With today’s focus on energy saving and low lifecycle cost, this benefit offers considerable scope for savings in operation and build costs. RADOX® cables are used extensively throughout the vehicle and have provided many years of uninterrupted service life to thousands of vehicles and remain the number one choice of engineers worldwide.

On display at booth 207 in Hall 2.2, will also be the SENCITY® rail multi-antenna, the first 5G ready antenna for mobile applications. Officially launched to the global market this month, the antenna masters the many requirements for Vehicle-to-Ground communication and can seamlessly provide an all-in-one wireless communication solution for all types of fleet.

The antenna also includes high-current and high-voltage protection properties, maximising performance without compromising safety. A number of trackside and roof-top antennas will also be available at the booth for a full connectivity model.

Alongside the SENCITY® antenna portfolio will be the company’s latest developments in fiber optic and CAT7 connectivity solutions, the range of HUBER+SUHNER inter-vehicle gigabit jumper systems.  Enabling a more reliable data transfer, the IP-based broadband technology is essential for today’s ‘Connected Train’ and is scalable and upgradable to accommodate for future developments. Supporting high-data rate infrastructure up to 10Gb/s, the portfolio of inter-vehicle jumper systems has been rigorously tested over 4 million cycles and continues to be the most reliable connectivity solution on the market.

A range of outdoor, wireless carriage bridging antennas specifically designed for the harsh rail environment, will also be on display at InnoTrans 2018. Optimising the process of disconnecting and reconnecting coaches, the wireless antennas meet EN50155 railway standards and are fire retardant according to DIN 5540-2, BS 6853, NF-F16-101/102 and EN45545-2.
