A total of 800 carriages on the Changchun and Tangshan Railways in China are to be equipped with more than 200,000m of HUBER+SUHNER cables, which will connect the trains’ new passenger entertainment systems.

Global connectivity supplier HUBER+SUHNER has supplied a range of radio-frequency coaxial cables for the new passenger entertainment system on some of China’s most prestigious high speed trains. Passengers on the CRH380 type high-speed trains on the Shanghai-Hangzhou and Beijing-Shanghai lines can watch movies and participate in online gaming while their carriages reach speeds of up to 350km/h.

Changchun Railway Vehicle Company and Tangshan Railway Vehicle Company are equipping a total of 100 eight-train units (800 carriages) on these high-speed trains with passenger entertainment systems. HUBER+SUHNER has delivered 10,000m of GX07272 coaxial cable to connect the systems. This was routed through all the carriages as a backbone cable in order to transmit the data through the entire train. In addition, 200,000m of GX03272 and GX4273 cable were installed to serve as network cables for the individual devices in each car.

The HUBER+SUHNER coaxial cables are extremely rugged and also highly resistant to temperature, thanks to the RADOX® sheath material they use. In addition, they are halogen-free and offer unique flame resistance with minimal smoke development. The cables also guarantee reliable signal transmission even when subjected to constant vibrations, knocks and impacts. Due to these properties, coaxial cables from HUBER+SUHNER are ideal for use in trains, and were therefore the customers’ first choice.

Thanks to the new entertainment system with cables from HUBER+SUHNER, passengers can now watch movies or play games on the trains to help pass the time.

InnoTrans exhibition visitors can discover more about this and other projects and see the HUBER+SUHNER vision for future railway connections in Hall 2.2 at InnoTrans 2014, Berlin, Germany, between 23-26 September, at a joint stand with SWISSRAIL.
