For Richer or Poorer, Rail Projects Steam Ahead - Wednesday, October 22, 2008
As the credit squeeze continues investment in worldwide rail infrastructure is on the up as governments try to stem the tide. For instance, Beijing has budgeted more than four times the sum of the previous five years for rail investments in a bid to help cushion the impact of economic turmoil and make up for past underinvestment. In a similar move, UK Chancellor Alistair Darling has vowed that work will go ahead on the new £16 billion London rail link despite rising Government borrowing and shrinking tax revenues. However, in the GCC region where the economy continues to thrive, rail developments are both desperately needed and totally captivating in their developments.
