Wabtec has secured a new contract to provide a Positive Train Control (PTC) solution for the Central Florida Rail Corridor (CFRC), which operates the SunRail commuter rail service.

The $62m deal will see Wabtec deliver its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS) equipment for 24 locomotives and cab cars, as well as a back-office server, wayside communications and signalling solutions, and a dispatch system.

The new PTC solution will be completely interoperable with the existing system that is currently being implemented by all Class 1 railroads.

SunRail operates more than 60 miles of track across the central Florida region between Deland and Poinciana.

The installation of I-ETMS is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Wabtec operates a number of facilities worldwide and primarily focuses on providing equipment, systems and value-added services for transit and freight rail infrastructure.

The company manufactures different components for locomotives, freight and passenger cars, in addition to providing aftermarket services.

Wabtec was previously contracted to design, install, test and commission a yard train control solution for Brazilian freight railroad RUMO in December.
