Sapphire subsidiary Ranken Railway Construction Group has secured three new rail transit contracts featuring a combined value of S$57m ($42.19m) for works along the Chengdu metro line in China.

The scope of the first two deals involves the construction of two almost 3km-long tunnels between Fuzhou Road Station and Xinglong Station, as well as variety of open cut earthworks along the metro line with a total value of S$52m ($38.5m).

“Whilst there has recently been news about halting major infrastructure projects in China’s smaller towns, Ranken continues to win major jobs in the main cities.”

In addition, the remaining S$5m ($3.7m) contract will see Ranken supervise the construction of the 25km-long track-laying work along the second phase of the line, which spans from Sancha Station to Terminal 1 and 2 of Tianfu International Airport Station.

Sapphire Group CEO and managing director Teh Wing Kwan said: “Whilst there has recently been news about halting major infrastructure projects in China’s smaller towns, Ranken continues to win major jobs in the main cities.

“Apart from the recent contract wins, Ranken remains busy in other bidding preparatory works as well.”

The contract work will be completed between the financial years ending 31 December next year and 31 December 2020.
