KBR has won a programme alliance contract from the Government of Victoria for railroad crossing removal projects in Australia.

KBR will collaborate with John Holland, Metro Trains and the Level Crossing Removal Authority to remove two separate railroad crossings as part of the new commitment. The projects are scheduled to start in the near future and are expected to be completed by next year.

The company will be responsible for providing engineering and design services for the crossing removals and associated works.

KBR Asia-Pacific president Greg Conlon said: “This latest contract builds on KBR's decade-long involvement in railroad crossing removals in Victoria and adds to our current portfolio of major rail infrastructure projects in Australia.

“This includes early works for the multi-billion dollar Metro Tunnel and extension to the Mernda metropolitan line, both in Victoria, the Torrens Rail Junction Project in South Australia and the Sydney Metro project in New South Wales.

"This latest contract builds on KBR's decade-long involvement in railroad crossing removals in Victoria and adds to our current portfolio of major rail infrastructure projects in Australia."

"We are pleased to be part of these transformational infrastructure projects that are creating jobs, stimulating local economies and delivering safer roads and railways for Australian communities.”

The alliance will also be able to extend the contract to remove an additional four railroad crossings, subject to the completion of the first two projects in accordance with strict performance guidelines.

The government has already an initiative to remove 50 of the most dangerous and congested railroad crossings throughout the city of Melbourne.

KBR along with its partners removed the first four railroad crossings last year as part of the programme.
