Japanese information technology company Fujitsu has collaborated with Jorudan in a bid to add a train delay time prediction function to the Norikae Annai service, which provides public transportation route-planning information.

The new collaboration will also carry out a field trial for the new service to help public transportation users make appropriate route choices across 138 train lines in the Kanto region in Japan.

The delay time prediction function is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) machine learning technology. Services learn from both new and past data provided by railway operations and submitted by users to Jorudan's Norikae Annai service.

"This new service will help Norikae Annai's app users to obtain precise and timely predictions about train delay times."

With the execution of the field trial, Fujitsu intends to confirm the effectiveness of the new function and aims to expand services both inside and outside Japan.
