Bombardier NUG Propulsion System (BNP) has secured two contracts worth approximately CNY531m ($79m) from Chinese New United Group (NUG) to provide MITRAC propulsion and control equipment for the Chengdu Metro Line 6 and Chongqing Metro Line 4 projects.

Bombardier owns 50% of the shares in its Chinese joint venture BNP, which was established in 2003 and is jointly controlled by the company and NUG.

Bombardier China president Jianwei Zhang said: “We are very happy to be selected by Chengdu and Chongqing customers to equip their local metro cars with MITRAC propulsion equipment and continuously power the rapid development of their urban mass transit systems with our proven and reliable technology.”

Under the contract BNP will be responsible for the engineering, manufacturing, commissioning and initial delivery of spare parts for the propulsion systems, which are to be installed on-board 678 metro cars across Chengdu and Chongqing.

"We are very happy to be selected by Chengdu and Chongqing customers to equip their local metro cars with MITRAC propulsion equipment."

The equipment will be supplied from Bombardier’s facilities in Västerås, Sweden, and Changzhou, China.

BNP will supply propulsion equipment for a total of 600 cars that are set to operate along the 47km-long Chengdu Metro Line 6.
